Pulitzer Prize Photographers


Tom Kelly, Pulitzer Prize winner for his series of photographs "Tragedy on Sanatoga Road"


"Thomas Kelly's interest in his field was influenced by the work of great journalists and the coverage of historic moments in world history. Starting as a volunteer fire department public relations liaison, Kelly's photography gained the attention of local Pennsylvania news agencies. Soon, he was filing for a variety of news outlets, and a career was born. Kelly was named National Press Photographer Regional Photographer of the Year for his work in both 1974 and 1975. In 1979, he was named Newspaper Photographer of the Year by the same organization."

Stanley J. Forman-Pulitzer Prize Winner

"He began as a freelance photographer and then worked for the Boston Herald American. There, he became the only photographer to win consecutive Pulitzer Prizes for spot news. The first covered a Boston fire, and the second a confrontation at an anti-busing rally. Forman shared a third Pulitzer with the Herald American photography staff for its coverage of the 1978 New England blizzard. His photo credits include Newsweek, Time, Life, and Photography Annual."

Joe Rosenthal-Pulitzer Prize Winner

"His career began in San Francisco with the Newspaper Enterprise Association. He served as chief photographer and manager for Times Wide World Photos before it was taken over by the AP. After the war, Rosenthal became a photographer for the San Francisco Chronicle."

William C. Beall-Pulitzer Prize Winner


"He started his career at the age of sixteen, working for a photo agency. He later worked as a photographer for the Washington Post and then the Washington Daily News. He was named chief photographer in 1940. Beall worked as a combat photographer with the U.S. Marines during World War II. He won the Air Medal in 1945 for his coverage of the battle for Okinawa. His credits include awards from the National Headliners Club, the United Press International News Pictures Contest, and the National Press Photographers Association."
